A core principle of Stoicism is that it is not external events that are good or bad, but or judgment of them. That’s why Marcus Aurelius penned down these words to remind himself:

“Everything is just an impression.” —Monimus the Cynic. And the response is obvious enough. But the point is a useful one, if you take it for what it’s worth.

What is the response that is obvious enough though? My guess would be “That is an impression too.” Everything is perspective, anything that happens in the world: war, peace, famine. If everything is in accordance with nature, why fight it?

There’s no reason not to agree with nature because nature has provided us with the means to rationally think and accept the course of events no matter where they take us.

Of course, this is an impression too.
