If you show your product to people and go “meh,” then you are showing your product to the wrong people. Building on the analogy that building a product is like making a dinner, we can come to the conclusion that sometimes you are trying to feed the wrong people.
Imagine slaving away in the kitchen the whole day and your guest arrives fifteen minutes late and completely hammered. All he wants is a Big Mac with chicken nuggets on the side. Do you think that this person will really appreciate all the love and effort you put in making this dinner? I don’t think so.
We’re not judging who’s right and who’s wrong here. The point I’m making is that sometimes there can be a disconnect between what you are serving (your product) and what your guests want (customer needs/desires). In other words, you’re trying to feed the wrong people.
Don’t worry about it too much. Just order some McDonalds for the two of you and start calling up your friends to see who hasn’t made dinner yet, and might appreciate your dinner a tad more.
